School of Excellence Day of Celebration Held At Blowing Rock School

It was a day of celebration at Blowing Rock School on May 2nd. The day’s routine classroom routine was interrupted to acknowledge the students, faculty and parents successful partnership efforts to once again earn School of Excellence status again in 2007, and also to set the stage for challenging the students to make a total commitment to be one of just a couple of schools around the state to continue a long run of holding the distinction of being one of the top performing schools in North Carolina. Students will be undergoing EOG testing involving students from Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth grade.


Linda Gilleland Returns From Insurance Seminar

Linda Gilleland, owner of Greystone Insurance Associates, recently completed a three-day Commercial Casualty insurance institute in Scottsdale, Arizona. The classes were presented by The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research’s Society of Certified Insurance Counselors (CIC), and hosted by the Independent Agents & Brokers of Arizona.

Chamber Leadership Program Graduates Celebrate


The 2008 Class of the Blowing Rock Leadership Challenge held its graduation celebration at the Inn on April 30th. Eleven graduates received framed certificates along with special gifts from the management team consisting of Charles Hardin, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, Brian Crutchfield, Blue Ridge Electric, and Bill Barr of Handel Barr Learning, Inc. The attendees also heard a motivation speech by Dale Collie of Courage Builders, a Blowing Rock based author and professional speaker.

Tweetsie Will Again Host Letterland And Learning Express Days


Tweetsie Railroad, North Carolina’s first theme park, is best known for family fun, cowboys and Indians and the famed Engine #12 steam locomotive, but on May 9, 16 and 23, the park will be transformed into a magical place called Letterland where the letters of the alphabet come alive!  Letterland is a popular reading system which has helped raise literacy standards among North Carolina children.
