Bonnie Tyson Prothro, 95 of Blowing Rock, passed peacefully from this life with her daughter at her side Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at Blowing Rock Extended Care.

Mrs. Prothro was born January 31, 1916, in Grant Parrish, Louisiana, a daughter of the late Barney and Lela McBride Tyson. She and her husband, Cecil S. Prothro, were lifelong residents of Alexandria, Louisiana, and members of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Alexandria.

Mrs. Prothro is survived by a daughter, Patsy Prothro Anderson of Boone; two grandchildren, Ashley Anderson Mattei and her husband, Scott, of Charlotte, and Blake Anderson and his wife, Jodie, of Athens, Georgia; a sister, Mary Lois Humble of Minden, Louisiana; and two brothers, Murphy J. Tyson of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Harry S. Tyson of Sulphur Springs, Texas. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Cecil S. Prothro, in 2004.

A memorial service for Mrs. Bonnie Tyson Prothro will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2012, at Boone United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Dr. George Naff.

The family will receive friends following the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Boone United Methodist Church, 471 New Market Blvd. Boone, NC 28607.
