Barbara Ball Is 2008 Woman Of The Year
The fashions were a highlight. So was the food. Highlighting the 31st annual Blowing Rock Hospital Fashion Show was also a Patron’s Party, raffles, and a collection of the most beautiful girls and handsome guys that ever took a walk down a runway. But the highlight of every Fashion Show, and most especially for the record number of spectators that were on hand this past Friday at Blowing Rock Country Club, was the announcement of the 2008 Woman of the Year. Last year’s winner, Janice Burns, made that announcement with glowing remarks about Barbara Ball only the 29th person to be given that honor since the Fashion Show began in 1977. In presenting the honor, the 2007 recipient shared Barbara’s history of service and positive impact on, not only Blowing Rock, but other projects and programs from North Carolina to Massachusetts. Her credentials for earning the town’s most prestigious award include service as Community Foundation members and chair, service to the community as a member of the City Council, and voluntary service with more than half a dozen Blowing Rock institutions. Her work with needy families, children and community service projects were also shared. Barbara joins former winners Caroline Abernethy, Marge Barrett, Lena Brooks, Janice Burns, Pat Cade, Grace Carr, Betty Coleman, Jeanne Darr, Teena Davant, Helen Enterline, Cathey Fallows, Betty Gortner, Susie Greene, Roberta Grundset, Mariam Hayes, Brown Justice, Marty Koerschner, Lynn Lawrence, Irma Lyons, Margaret Morris, Betty Pitts, Rachel Rose, Mary Lentz, Anne Snively, Ginny Stevens, Mary Tarr, Ineke Thomas and Barbara Wright.
