What A Blast!

The largest crowd ever saw the greatest show ever in the history of the Music by the Lake Concert, this year highlighted by the magnificent Charlotte Philaphonic Orchestra.


Peregrine Falcons Raising Chicks at Grandfather Mt.


A pair of peregrine falcons successfully raised two chicks this summer in a nest located deep in the backcountry of Grandfather Mountain. This is the first time in five years that biologists have documented peregrines at Grandfather raising chicks to the point that they could survive on their own.

5th Annual Heritage Day At Cone Manor On August 9th


On August 9th, Parkway Craft Center and the National Park Service once again join together to sponsor the Fifth Annual Heritage Day at Moses Cone Memorial Park.  Located at milepost 294 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Colonial Revival Manor House is situated on 3600 acres and provides a beautiful backdrop for the planned activities.  This annual event has gained popularity through the years and is a favorite in Blowing Rock.

School Bells Will Ring


School Bells Will Ring Here On August 7th The first day of the 2008-2009 school year for the Watauga County Schools will be Thursday, August 7th, a regular, full-length school day on the new calendar. Regular bus routes will run and lunch will be served at all schools.
