Blowing Rock Methodist Welcomes Resident Artists

Blowing Rock Methodist Church observed their first seasonal service of the year on Sunday and that included welcoming a talented group of resident musical artists for 2008. From left to right above, are Connie Waddell, Craig Brown, David Clark and Kristy Price. All are voice and performance majors in the graduate and undergraduate music program at Appalachian State University. These singers will sing every Sunday through September at the church at 1314 South Main Street.


BRAHM Offers Preview Of New Museum Building To Membership

Blowing Rock Art and History Museum members who attended the annual members’ meeting last week were treated to a spectacular 3-D view of the revised exterior of the structure. This was the first public showing of a media presentation that used computer animation to show the three-story building from a bird’s-eye view.

Marge Barrett Is Honorary Chair For 2008 Golden Jubilee Tour of Homes


Tuesday evening, June 3, 2008, St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church Women gave a standing ovation to Marge Barrett upon the announcement that she is the Honorary Chair for the 50th Anniversary Tour of Homes. The Great SINGING on the MOUNTAIN


After 84 years, Grandfather Mountain’s annual Singing on the Mountain legacy still remains. The gathering that began as a small family reunion has blossomed into a joyful celebration of the Appalachian Mountain heritage and will happen yet again at the base of Grandfather Mountain June 22, 2008.

Records Continue To Tumble At Grandfather


Warm weather over the entire eastern United States continued at Grandfather Mountain this weekend and today pushing the number of consecutive days with record temperatures to six.
  A high temperature of 80 degrees recorded Saturday, June 7 broke the previous record for that day of 76 degrees set in 1988.
