Alex Placentra, of Blowing Rock, a senior at Watauga High School, recently won his fourth straight title while competing at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference. His freshman year, he and his brother, N.J., won first in Web site development; his sophomore year, he won first in computer concepts and continued on to place third in the nation at the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tenn.; his junior year, he won first in spreadsheet applications and continued on to place fourth in the nation at the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Chicago, Ill.; and this year, his senior year, he placed first in Internet application programming and will continue on to compete at the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Ga., in June. Four -time state winners are rare in FBLA and this is a first for Watauga High School, said a spokesperson for the FBLA at Watauga High School. Placentra has served as WHS FBLA president for the past two years. After graduation from Watauga High School, he will continue his education at the University of California - Berkeley. He is the son of Dr. Nick and Sarah Placentra of Blowing Rock.
