A Thank You From The President

Both David and Linda Combs spent a number of years as part of the President George Bush administrative team, David in a key position as Chief Information Officer for the Department of Agriculture and Linda as Controller of the United States in the Executive Office of the President. Both retired last year, but recently returned to Washington where their boss, George Bush, invited them to the Oval Office to personally express his appreciation for their outstanding accomplishments, leadership and service to their country. The Combs continue to split their time between homes in Winston Salem and Blowing Rock.


FBLA Member Wins Fourth State Title

Alex Placentra, of Blowing Rock, a senior at Watauga High School, recently won his fourth straight title while competing at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference.

8-Track Kicks Off 23rd Season For Blowing Rock Stage Co.


For its season premiere, the Blowing Rock Stage Company is blowing open a time capsule guaranteed to send musical shrapnel from the impassioned titular decade straight into the hearts of audience members. The musical romp 8-Track: The Sounds of the 70’s, playing May 23-June 8 at the Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock, N.C., features a quartet of singers linking nearly 60 different “tracks” into harmonic scenes for a propulsive, blisteringly paced, nostalgia-laced reunion with a unique slice of pop-rock history.

Day Out With THOMAS The Great Discovery Tour Pulling Into Tweetsie


Peep! Peep! Thomas the Tank Engine is set to roll into Blowing Rock for the Day Out With Thomas 2008: The Great Discovery Tour. The event, which takes place May 30 – June 8, 2008, will be hosted by Tweetsie Railroad, www.tweetsie.com, located in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains on US Highway 321 between Boone and Blowing Rock and presented by HIT Entertainment and sponsored by the LEGO Group.

Sculptor Alex Hallmark Of Blowing Rock, Wins “Live Life, Give Life” Red Cross Promotion



It seemed appropriate that if Blowing Rock, NC, sculptor Alex Hallmark was to ever win a drawing, it would be titled something similar to the January 2008 American Red Cross promotion, “Live Life, Give Life.” Hallmark, known for bringing life to his works of both the human form and animals, did win the drawing. His name was drawn from 26,931 entries in the promotion and as winner, he received a $500 Visa gift card.
