Mr. Ketner
Joe Edward “Ed” Ketner, Jr, age 54, of Lincolnton, N.C. and formerly of Blowing Rock, died suddenly on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte following a courageous battle with cancer. Eddie battled a disease that increased his limitations daily. He accomplished his “plan of the day” wholeheartedly and with a fervent drive for life.
A memorial service was held Sunday, May 11, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Duncan and Rev. Bob Symanski officiating.
Mr. Ketner was born on September 5, 1953 in Cabarrus Co.. He was the son of Joe Edward and Mary Ann Smith Ketner. He graduated from Independence High School and attended Western Carolina University. Mr. Ketner worked for US Food Service in Ft. Mill, S.C. as the division training manager.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca “Becky” McWhirter Ketner of the home; two sons, Blake Edward Ketner of Charlotte and Reid Parks Ketner of the home; his parents, Joe Edward Ketner, Sr. and Mary Ann Smith Ketner of Matthews; a sister, Susan Tucker and her husband, Larry and their son, Jackson, of Matthews; father and mother-in-law, Jim and Charlene McWhirter; sister-in-law Chris Blumberg; brother-in-laws Dale and his wife Jane McWhirter, Danny McWhirter, David and his wife Kelly McWhirter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He loved his family, golf, cooking, socializing with his friends, his church and his job.
