Mr. Godley
Mr. Slade Godley, Jr. of the Gardens of Taylor Glen, in Concord, N.C. and a former resident of Blowing Rock, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 8.
A memorial service was held Monday in the Chapel of the Fellowship House of First Presbyterian Church officiated by Rev. Kenneth Craig.
Slade was born May 7, 1932 in Savannah, Georgia to the late Slade Godley, Sr. and Carolyn Helmly Godley. He grew up in Coral Gables, FL and graduated from the University of Miami. Slade became an insurance agent with Hartford Insurance and later worked as a builder and developer in Orlando and Vero Beach, FL where he and his wife Frances lived for a number of years. He was a founding father and the first Senior Warden of St. Augustine Episcopal Church in Vero Beach.
Slade and “ Frankie” later retired to Blowing Rock, NC and are former members of Rumple Presbyterian Church. They recently moved to the Gardens of Taylor Glen.
Slade is survived by his wife, Frances Wilkinson Godley; daughters, Lisa Godley Lacy of Plano, TX and Carolyn Godley Yates and husband Andrew of Cary, NC; grandchildren, Patrick Lacy, Nathan Yates and Lindsay Yates; brother, Charles Godley and wife Anne of Clermont, FL. Also by step children, Carol P. Hovey and husband Bryan, Susan P. Hannah and husband Walter, Daniel Propst and wife Joy, and Luther Propst and 8 step grandchildren.
