Mrs. Gage
Dorothy Mixon Gage, 73, of 1719 Robinwood Road, died May 3, 2008 at her residence in Gastonia, N.C.
She was born July 2, 1934 in Clemson, S.C., daughter of the late George Floyd and Mildred Cochran Mixon.
..She was a 1952 graduate of Calhoun-Clemson High School, attended Lander College, graduated from Sacred Heart College with a B.A. Degree in Education where she was valedictorian of her class, a graduate of Western Carolina University receiving her Masters Degree in Education. A teacher, having taught kindergarten, and later in her career taught the academically and intellectually gifted, of which she was instrumental in the organization of that program.
She retired from Gaston County Schools in 1990 and was a member of Myers Memorial United Methodist Church for over 50 years where she was a former leader of the youth group. She was an avid bridge player and really loved animals, participated in the Odyssey of the Minds, was actively involved with numerous charities, a Girl Scout Troop Leader and loved working with children. She enjoyed her home in Blowing Rock and spending time with family.
Mrs. Gage is survived by her husband of over 53 years, Charles Vardell Gage Sr.; sons, Charles V. Gage Jr. and companion David Sexton, G. Allen Gage and wife Deborah; daughters, Carol A. Jordan and husband Matt and Joan C. Gage, all of Gastonia; brothers, Robert Mixon and wife Louise and David Mixon, both of Clemson, SC; grandchildren, Chantel Howell, Matthew Jordan, Lindsey Jordan, Patrick Wall and Meghan Wall; great-grandchildren, Shelby Howell and Cody Philbeck.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by half brother, Joe Mixon; grandson, Joshua Philbeck.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gage were held Wednesday, May 7, at Myers United Methodist Church with Revs. Ed Biggers and Tom Latimer officiating.
Entombment followed at Gaston Memorial Park Mausoleum.
