Blowing Rock Carpool Would Save Gasoline

Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Charles Hardin has initiated a study to find out how may employees who travel to work in Blowing Rock from neighboring communities might be interested in an organized carpool to save gasoline because of the high cost of fuel.
Merchants or anyone working in Blowing Rock can look at four alternatives for getting to work, depending on where they live. These four outlying areas are part of the initial four areas that could organize a convenient and cost saving system of carpooling.
Mr. Hardin listed the four different car pooling possibilities as:
1. For those living in Tennessee, Zionville and the Vilas areas.
2. For those living in Wilkes County, Deep Gap and the Ashe County areas.
3. For those living in Avery County, Banner Elk and Elk Park areas.
4. For those living in the Caldwell County and Lenoir area.
“Right now we’re trying to get an indication of interest,” Hardin said this week. “If we see sufficient interest we’ll proceed to help organize car pool groups, and not only will that save them money on gas but help preserve our parking spaces for our residents and visitors.”
To comment, register or for more information go to the Chamber of Commerce email at www.BlowingRock.com or hardince@blowingrock.com.
“We’ll coordinate the responses and help ‘hook you’ up with other interested carpoolers,” Hardin said.
