√ BRAAC Clean-Up Day
Will Be May 3rd At 9:30 a.m.
√ Town Will Come On Board
With Their Spring Campaign On May 12 Through 16
Residents and property owners in and around the Blowing Rock area will have not one, but two periods to participate in clean up efforts during early May.
The first effort will the the traditional volunteer Clean Up Day hosted by the Blowing Rock Appearance Advisory Commission (BRAAC) on Saturday, May 3rd at 9:30 a.m. Volunteers are encouraged to meet at the Gazebo in Memorial Park on Main Street where they will be given area street assignments.
BRAAC members and friends will be given bright colorful vests and all the plastic bags necessary to make Blowing Rock shine, clearing ditches and roadsides from all the litter accumulated over the winter months.
“We’re going to grill lunch for all the volunteers this year,” said BRAAC spokesperson Genie Starnes. “We’ll have a great time talking about the unusual items and circumstances during the morning as we enjoy a free delicious lunch.
“Our citizens have always supported BRAAC on Clean Up Day and we appreciate every pair of hands we can muster,” Starnes continued. “We ask everyone to come and help on this special day for our town, and we would love to have a huge group of volunteers this year. Many hands make light work.
“We encourage everyone to bring a friend, neighbor, or a good-looking stranger to help us make our Town of Blowing Rock look its very best!”
A special invitation is extended to civic groups or clubs who would like to take a specific area of town to clean as a group.
The Clean-Up efforts continue the following week, this time accommodating property owners cleaning up inside and outside their homes.
Town Hall and the Department of Public Works calls their supportive community civic project the “Spring Bi-Annual Clean-up” and it will last the entire week of May 12 through 16th.
Held in support of the BRAAC spring clean-up effort, the Town’s Clean Up service accommodates citizens by picking up their accumulation of both yard debris and trash. The pick up of items includes white goods, yard debris (leaves, tree branches, etc), mattresses, paint cans, etc (paint cans must be dry or have kitty litter added to absorb the paint).
Residents taking advantage of the service are reminded to not block any ditches, drains or private or public roadway access.
All items should be separated if possible, and if not in containers, placed to ease removal by town crews.
Residents do not need to call the Town Hall to have their names on a list, and trucks will circulate regularly through neighborhoods during the entire week.
The Bi-Annual Cleanup is offered by the Town of Blowing Rock in the fall and spring of each year, in support of BRAAC and the hundreds of volunteers who make the village attractive for its residents and visitors.
