Fire destroys Tweetsie Museum

For Tweetsie Railroad fans of a certain age, singing cowboy Fred Kirby will forever be remembered as the theme park’s sheriff. Those fans received devastating news this week when the word spread that all of the Fred Kirby memorabilia housed in the Tweetsie museum was lost in a weekend fire.

Blowing Rock receives additional drought relief

It appears that the Town of Blowing Rock is getting drought relief from a variety of sources. Last week The Blowing Rock Town Council eased water restrictions in light of heavy sustained rains received by the area since the beginning of the year. This week, the town received additional help from the state.

Parkway section to close in March

The 6.3-mile section of the Blue Ridge Parkway between US Route 421 east of Boone, NC and US Route 321 south of Boone will be temporarily detoured for bridge repairs. The detour will begin for visitor traveling south at milepost 285.5, Bamboo Gap. These visitors will follow state road (SR) 1514 Bamboo Road to Deerfield Road, following the detour signs along US Route 321 south of Boone then connecting back to the Parkway at milepost 291.8.
