The Blowing Rock Community Foundation has awarded six scholarship to students preparing themselves for college or university studies.
The Stevens Scholarship for up to $10,000 a year was awarded to Ashley Shore. That scholarship is provided through the Foundation by Ginny and David Stevens of Blowing Rock.
Utilizing proceeds from the 2007 Community Service Day fund drive for the Foundation, the Board, following lengthy interviews, awarded $1,000 scholarships to five other students who applied for assistance.
Samantha Perkins, Rebekah McDonald, Jennifer Rich, Miranda Lemyre and Joshua Bolick will each receive a $1,000 award from the Foundation to attend the college or university of their choice.
“We had an exceptional pool of candidates to choose from, and our decision was tough,” said Foundation Chair, Sandy Miller following interviews. “Between now and summer we will be providing more information on each of the recipients, including photographs and the name of the school they will be attending.”
The scholarships are a primary mission of the Foundation and their criteria for determining winners is based on both need and merit.
The Foundation also provides grants to support other projects and programs that serve the citizens of Blowing Rock.
