Mrs. Harrison
Mrs. Verla Mae Norman Harrison, age 88, 164 John Miller Road, Fleetwood, a former resident of the Boone Fork Community, died Wednesday morning, February 13, 2008, at Ashe Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Harrison was born September 20, 1919 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Clyde and Cordie McLean Norman. She was a homemaker and a member of Boone Fork Baptist Church.
Mrs. Harrison is survived by three daughters, Bertha Mae Reece of Patterson, Beulah H. Howell and husband Gene of Boone, and Georgia H. Pearson and husband Bill of Blowing Rock; five sons, Donald Harrison and wife Sue, and Scott Harrison and wife Judy, all of Blowing Rock, James Harrison and wife Barbara of Boone, Billy Harrison and wife Shirley of Lakeland, Florida, and David Harrison of Blowing Rock; two brothers, Howard Norman of Lenoir, and Edward Norman of Foscoe, and one sister, Martha Duckworh of Foscoe. She is also survived by twenty-eight grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Harrison; two brothers, Eugene and Raleigh Norman; one sister, Gwendolyn Norman; two grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Verla Mae Norman Harrison were conducted Friday afternoon, February 15, 2008, at Boone Fork Baptist Church. Officiating were Reverend Carl Osborne and Reverend Mike Minton. Burial followed in the Boone Fork Community Cemetery.

Mrs. Edmisten-Andrews
Nicky Lee Edmisten-Andrews, age 54, of Edmisten Road, Blowing Rock, died Wednesday afternoon, February 13, 2008 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Nicky was born June 29, 1953 in Parma, Ohio a daughter of Stephen Bogar and the late Mamie Louise Siffin Bogar. She was a member of Living Waters Christian Fellowship in Boone and was the office coordinator at Swiss Mountain Village Resort in Blowing Rock.
Nicky is survived by; three daughters, Nadine Wells of Sumter, SC, Brandi Miller of Boone and Merissa Edmisten of Wilkesboro; two grandsons, Codie Miller of Boone and Colton Key of Wilkesboro and one granddaughter, Mackenzie Williams of Wilkesboro; her father, Stephen Bogar of Anaheim, California; two sisters, Stephanie Ouijada of Moreno Valley, California and Laura Siffin of Parma, Ohio; and her husband, Mitchell Andrews of Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mamie Louise Siffin and her former husband, Ray Edmisten.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon, February 17th at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment followed at the Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum in Blowing Rock.
The family suggests memorials to the Seby Jones Regional Cancer Center at Watauga Medical Center, Post Office Box 2600, Boone, NC 28607.

Mr. Councill
Richard Jefferson Councill, age 84 has joined and is bound in eternal love to his predeceased wife Doris T. Councill, (January 28th ,2008). His prayers were answered on February 16th when he passed peacefully to be reunited with his beloved wife.
Mr. Councill, a seasonal resident of Blowing Rock, and a native of Salisbury, NC, was born May 26th, 1923. He was a distinguished man of science receiving his Master of Science degree at his alma mater, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
In World War II, he served in the Army Air Corp.
After graduation from Bombardier school, he was commissioned as Second Lieutenant and was awarded the “silver wings” of the aerial bombardier. In 1944 he was stationed in England and assigned to the 384th Bombardment Group where he flew several missions.
His professional career led him to assignments in Los Alamos, NM, with the United States Geological Survey.
He authored scientific chronicles, new discoveries and complex analyses encompassing the early geology of The State of North Carolina. These publications are still used in textbook and class lectures today.
He is the recipient of the prestigious “Order of the Long Leaf Pine” North Carolina, lifelong member of the scientific society of Sigma XI, Sigma Gamma Epsilon( Professional Geological Fraternity), member of the AIPG, fellow of the Geological Society of America, Carolina Geological Society, Society of Mining Engineers, and the Southeastern Geological Society.
He was a resident of Jacksonville since 1960 and was the Chief Geologist and Manager of Industrial Development with CSX until his retirement in 1988. He continued his professional career as a consultant and joined his fellow colleague and eminent Geologist Bobby Timmons who was a dear and devoted friend.
He is survived by his sister Anne Councill Dennis, (Bill) of Greensboro, NC., and was surrounded by the bountiful love of his children, Elizabeth, Barbara, Brenda, Bonny and Jefferson Bostwick Councill III. This circle of love extended to include his grandsons, Bryan and Ricky Smith, Jeff, Brett and Cameron Morgan, his granddaughters, Lindsay Webb and Kirby Pritchard, his great granddaughter, Hailey Smith, and much loved brother-in-laws, Edward Webb, Dennis Cleary and sister-in-law Carrie Councill.
Memorial Services will be held Friday, February 22, 2008, 3 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home.
