Blowing Rock Stage Company’s Teen Actors Guild (TAG), a group of junior and high school students that stages plays addressing social issues, performs Bang, Bang, You’re Dead, William Mastrosimone’s acclaimed play about school violence, on Sunday, February 24 at 3pm at the Hayes Performing Arts Center. Admission is free; donations will be accepted to benefit the Grandfather Home for Children in Banner Elk, a haven for children who have been victims of abuse and violence.
TAG, an arm of BRSC’s Theatre Education & Outreach Programs (TOPs), the education wing of the company that was implemented in 2001, welcomes all students in Watauga County and surrounding areas. TAG participants serve as BRSC young ambassadors while introducing the wonder of theatre. By addressing topical social issues such as substance abuse, school violence, tolerance and racism, TAG’s success is twofold: Its members both speak to their peers through the art of theatre and aspire to make a difference in people’s lives.
Spring 2008 TAG members include: Alise Blair, Sarah Brown, Kaitlin Felts, Hannah Fuller, Michael Knight, Jordan Rucker, Lyle Sterne and Chandler Walpole.
Throughout the year TAG is available to tour such accessible locations as schools, churches, PTA/PTO, parties, hospitals/nursing homes and festivals with its featured shows. If you are interested in TAG performing at your school or venue, make your reservation now by calling BRSC Education Director Kim Cozort Kay at 828-295-9168 ext. 3.
