While Blowing Rock School is among the highest ranking academic schools in the state, all the focus is not on writin’, readin’ and ‘rithmatick.
Students not only excel in classroom studies and creative thinking, but many of them also find the time and energy to discover and develop their talent, and that will be the side of the students the public sees on Tuesday evening, February 19th at 6:30 p.m.
The annual Blowing Rock School Talent Show will showcase a variety of talent by students from several grade levels in the school theatre auditorium, and family, classmates, and friends of the school are invited to join the evening of sharing from the students.
“I believe many will be surprised at the talent exhibited at this year’s talent show,” said coordinator Becky Reiss. “I am proud we can share these student efforts with the public.”
A number of the students have been influenced by the success of the Blowing Rock Stage Company’s TOPs program, and some of those who perform on February 19th will, more than likely, go on to take advantage of opportunities through Blowing Rock’s professional theatre’s theatre outreach program.
That excites BRSC’s Director of Education, Kim Cozort Kay.
“Anytime a forum is made available to showcase the talent of young people, it thrills me,” she said. “That is the most important thing we can share with them - encouragement and opportunity.
A list of the students who will share their talent on February 19th wasn’t announced, but the evening will include a variety of talent in a number of venues.
“Our objective is to not only provide the guidance and exposure for the students, but to challenge them to perform before a live audience,” Reiss says. “The applause and appreciation expressed from the audience will do more to boost their desire to pursue their talent than any other single factor in their development. The public can be a motivating partner in our efforts.”
