Ms. Barr

Ms. Mary Nell Holman Barr, age 78, of Cook Drive, West Jefferson, died Wednesday afternoon, January 23, 2008 at Cannon Memorial Hospital.
Born in Ashe County September 25, 1929, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary McCorkle Holman. Ms. Barr was a member of Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church, and was a retired cook.
Surviving are: one son, Rev. Randy Barr and wife Kay of Grove City, Ohio, two daughters; Kimberly Franklin of Banner Elk and Ellen Russell and husband Raeford of Foscoe, four grandchildren; Matthew Reed Franklin and wife Burlene of Banner Elk, Jason Ray cook and wife Mindy of Vilas, Stephanie Michelle Barr of Cleveland, Tennessee, and Dakota Russell of Foscoe, four great grandchildren; Eva Marie Cook and Thomas Riley Cook of Vilas, and Sidney Cole Franklin and Payton Marie Franklin of Banner Elk, two sisters; Deane Wilcox of Todd and Mossie Davis of Blowing Rock, and one brother; Greer Holman of Vilas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters; Mabel Wilcox and Ruth Prince, five brothers; Coolidge, Jess, Joe, Freeman and Roger Holman, and a son in law, Dale Franklin.
Memorial services for Ms. Mary Nell Holman Barr were conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating was the Rev. Richard Holshouser.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 222 South Church Street, Charlotte, NC 28202. On line condolences may be sent to the Barr family at austinandbarnesfuneralhome.com.

Mrs. Councill

Doris Tucker Councill passed on peacefully surrounded by the eternal love of her husband, Richard J. Councill, her five beloved children, Elizabeth, Barbara, Brenda, Bonny , Jeff and her loving grandsons, Bryan, Ricky, Jeff, Brett, Cameron and granddaughters, Lindsay, Kirby (Kyle) and great granddaughter Hailey.  This great circle of love extended to include her devoted and much loved son-in-law’s, Eddie, Dennis and daughter-in-law Carrie.
  Doris will be remembered and blessed for her special gifts and deeds to charitable causes, volunteerism and her compassion for the less fortunate.  She touched those in need through her community activism and as a devoted member of South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church. Her surviving family continues to be inspired by her tireless devotion to family, her generosity of spirit, the great love she spread and her boundless creativity.
  She was born in Danville, VA. April 21, 1924 and was a honored member of the historic ancestral Founding Families of Virginia through her father Gus White Tucker and mother Ida Smith Anderson.  Her youth was spent in Greensboro, NC with her 3 brothers Raleigh, Ernest and Basil.  As a young adult Doris was a fashion model and attended North Carolina State University.  She was married to Richard Jefferson Councill of Salisbury, NC in 1949 at Carlsbad, NM.  The couple had memorable years in Los Alamos, NM and Wilmington, NC.  before their move to Jacksonville, Fl. in 1960.
  Doris and her family were summer residents of Blowing Rock, NC since 1983.  Many happy summers were spent surrounded by the natural beauty, history, friends, family and her volunteer activities in this quaint mountain village will be remembered.
  The family wishes to thank and encourages donations to Northeast Community Hospice, American Cancer Society and to the charitable deeds of South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church.
 Memorial services were held on Friday, February 1, at Hardage Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, Fl. 32223.
