FINALLY Enough Snow To Plow
Just call us Dodge City! Instead of being directly in the path of a furious winter storm, Blowing Rock has dodged, not just one but almost every one since 2005, feeling only a glancing blow that either passed to the northwest or southeast of the Highest Country. But the storms are getting closer, and most feel it only a matter of time. And when it hits, it will hit hard. Last week’s three to four inches, while modest in terms of our winter history, was more like normal, and the first time since 2005 that there was enough snowfall to pile into mini-mountains in some places. The town even broke out the big, and little plows to do their usual exceptional job in keeping the roads not only passable but in good condition. The several inches that fell last Wednesday night and Thursday morning, was followed on Saturday by only a dusting of snow that fell heavier in the deeper south than in the High Country. High Country residents and visitors dealt quite comfortably with the snow, complaining most about the below zero temperatures that moved into the area Sunday night. The best part of the most recent storms were that the winds ranged from calm to brisk, and the skiing was near perfect.
