Mrs. Kime

Mrs. Marjorie Kime, age 85, of 673 Main Street, Blowing Rock, died Saturday, December 29, 2007, at Blowing Rock Hospital.
Mrs. Kime was born March 5, 1922 in Evanston, Illinois, a daughter of the late Gladstone Blaine and Nell McKee Niles. She was a homemaker and attended Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Kime is survived by one daughter, Valerie Kime of Lafayette, Colorado; one son, Clay Kime and wife Kathie of Fairfax, Virginia; two granddaughters, Stacey Kime and Kelley Kime, both of Fairfax, and three grandsons, Bob Kime, III of Fairfax, Tyler Hall and Arthur Hall, both of Lafayette, Colorado.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Kime.
Funeral services for Mrs. Marjorie Kime were conducted Wednesday morning, January 2, 2008, at Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church in Blowing Rock. Officiating was Reverend Richard Holshouser. Interment followed in Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1218 Main Street, Blowing Rock, North Carolina, 28605.

Mr. Mabry

Mr. Hal L. Mabry, Sr., 78, of 2152 George Hayes Road, died Tuesday January 1, 2008.
Mr. Mabry was the son of the late Claude Lee Mabry and Vangie Wortman Mabry. He graduated from Shelby High School in 1947, and graduated from Gardner Webb College and from Wake Forest University in 1951, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon.
He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran having served in the Korean War. He was retired from Appalachian State University after 20 years working as a Systems Analyst and a Computer Programmer. Mr. Mabry enjoyed volunteering in little league baseball while living in Greensboro and North Carolina High Country..
Mr. Mabry is survived by, his wife of 47 years, Mary Frances Mitchell Mabry of the home, two daughters, Cheryl M. Anderson of Banner Elk, Joan Ward and husband Doyle of Sugar Grove, a son, H. Lee Mabry, Jr. and wife Sidney of Raleigh, three granddaughters, Ashley Ward and Haley Ward both of Sugar Grove, and Mary Frances Mitchell Mabry of Raleigh, one grandson, Joseph Mabry of Raleigh, two sisters, Norma M. Sorgee of Rock Hill, SC, and Carol M. Shook and husband Tom of Clemmons, NC. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Hal L. Mabry, Sr. wereconducted Friday, January 4th at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Rev. Allan Blume and Rev. Bud Russell officiated. Entombment followed at Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens Mausoleum.
Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the Mount Vernon Baptist Church Building Fund, 3505 Bamboo Road, Boone, NC 28607.

Mr. Wallace

Mr. Harold O. Wallace, age 91, of Piney Point, in Palmetto, Florida, died Tuesday, January 1, 2008, at Blowing Rock Hospital in Blowing Rock, North Carolina.
Mr. Wallace was born October 31, 1916 in Perry, Michigan, a son of the late Oliver and Effie Clees Wallace. He was a retired senior vice-president and trust officer for Isabella Bank and Trust, in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
Mr. Wallace is survived by two sons, Richard "Rick" Wallace and wife Mary Ellen of Kalkaska, Michigan, and James Wallace and wife Marta of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one daughter, Kathleen Whatley and husband Robert of Blowing Rock; three granddaughters, Lynne Griffith and husband Steve of Boone, Christine Whatley of Saugus, Massachusetts, and Anne Bowman and husband Tom of California, and three grandsons, Robert Andrew Whatley and wife Ann of Blowing Rock, Michael Whatley and wife Suzanne of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Dirk Wallace of China. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Quayle Wallace. and one brother, Donovan Wallace.
There will be no services for Mr. Wallace at this time.

Mr. Jones

Mr. Jack Weeks "J.W." Jones, age 80, of 2633 Jasman Avenue, Sebring, Florida, and a resident of Blowing Rock, died Saturday, December 29, 2007.
Mr. Jones was born January 9, 1927 in Orlando, Florida, a son of the late Benjamin Paul Jones and Elizabeth Weeks Jones. He received his bachelor’s degree form Southeast Louisiana University, then his master’s degree from Harvard Business School. After a number of years as an executive with the Esso Corporation, Mr. Jones became a private real estate developer and investor. He was a devoted family man and a private pilot.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Barbara Friley Jones of Blowing Rock and Sebring, Florida; one son, Jonathan McLeod Jones and wife Deborah of Blowing Rock; one granddaughter, Darcy Leigh Jones, and one grandson, Rhyne McLeod Jones, both of Blowing, and one brother, Benjamin Jones of Brigham City, Utah.
A memorial service for Mr. Jack Weeks "J.W. Jones will be conducted Friday morning, January 11, 2008, at 11:00 o'clock, at St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church in Blowing Rock. Officiating will be Father Rick Lawler.
A reception will follow the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Mrs. Brown

Charlotte Palmer Brown, age 94, of Albemarle, N.C., and a former seasonal resident of Blowing Rock, died on December 3 in Albemarle.
Mrs. Brown was born on April 27, 1913 in Canton, Georgia, a daughter of the late Charles L. Palmer and Virginia Lee Kirk Palmer.
She was educated in the Asheville, N.C. public schools, and then attended Meredith College in Raleigh. She married Richard L. Brown, Jr. of Albemarle in 1932, and moved to Albemarle. Mr. Brown died in 1998.
While raised during her formative years in Asheville, Charlotte Palmer Brown spent much time in the summer with her grandparents in Palmerville in Stanly County, often riding the train from the mountains to the Yadkin River community without escort. The Kirk home place still stands in Palmerville.
Mrs. Brown was an active member for many years, holding various offices in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and in the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UCD). Additionally, she served in m any capacities in the First Lutheran Church of Albemarle. Her other club and civic memberships were numerous and varied over the years, including the Amy Crowell Garden Club that undertook many community projects.
She was a founding member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Stanly County Hospital and was a member of the Stanly Regional Medical Center Foundation.
In the 1950’s, Mrs. Brown and her husband fell in love with Blowing Rock, where they maintained a summer home for many years. Both were active in Blowing Rock Methodist Church and in the activities of Blowing Rock Country Club.
Over the years she and her husband made many friends in Blowing Rock, many of whom remained in close contact with the family during the winter months. The family continues to seasonally occupy their home on Norwood Circle, and Mrs. Brown’s son, Charles P. Brown, like his late father, is a past president of the Blowing Rock Country Club.
Mrs. Brown is survived by three children - Virginia Brown Ingram of Asheboro, N.C. and Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Richard Lane Brown III of Daniel Island/Charleston, S.C.; and Charles Palmer Brown of Albemarle, N.C. There are ten grandchildren surviving, including Gini Linn Ingram Abee of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; BB Ingram Gooden of Myrtle Beach; John Randolph Ingram II of Cary, N.C.; Michelle Ingram Cox of Myrtle Beach; Berit Asbury Brown Williams and Kirk Wales Brown of Durham, N.C.; Taylor Lane Benson Brown and Sara Asheton Brown of Greensboro; Charles Palmer Brown, Jr. of Albemarle; and Courtney Adams Brown of Washington, D.C. She is also survived by several great grandsons and five great granddaughters.
Funereal services for Mrs. Brown were held at the First Lutheran Church of Albemarle on December 6, 2007 with the Rev. John W. Futterer presiding. Graveside rites were held at the Albemarle City Cemetery following the service. Mrs. Brown’s pallbearers included her grandsons and great-grandsons.
Memorials may be considered to the Blowing Rock Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1270, Blowing Rock, N.C. 28605, The First Lutheran Church, 220 South Second Street, Albemarle, N.C. 28001, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Mrs. Belknap

Jeanne Belknap died Sunday, January 6, 2008 following a lengthy illness at a rehabilitation center, Vista Manor in Titusville, Florida.
Mrs. Belknap was born October 20, 1921 in Akron, Ohio to Porter Guy and Jennie Duncan Stout. A former resident of Kent, Ohio and Blowing Rock, North Carolina, Jeanne is survived by her husband of 70 years, Claude O. Belknap.
Jeanne will be buried at Sylvan Abbey in Safety Harbor, Florida on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at graveside services.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughters, Carol Tonner and husband Rob of Titusville, Donna Moore and husband George of Blowing Rock, and Claudia Maggard and husband Mike of Tallahassee, Fl. Surviving grandchildren are Kelly Dorsey and husband Todd of Lexington, Ky, Brad Tonner and wife, Allison of Titusville, Fl, Gregory Moore and wife Satoko of Dallas, Texas, and Carmen Trammell and husband Wilson of Tallahassee, Fl, Sydney Blake and husband, Will of the Blowing Rock area and Jamie Moore of Morganton. Jeanne’s surviving great grandchildren are Mary, Emma and Teddy Trammell of Tallahassee, Allison Leah Ferrell of Morganton, Troy Blake of Blowing Rock and Kurt and Kyle Dorsey of Lexington, Ky. Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Frank Stout.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice.
