The 10th Annual Blowing Rock Winterfest is already heating up, and there is no better place to warm up than at the fantastic and challenging Winterfest Chili Cook-off.
This lighthearted competition has become one of the highlights of the annual festival providing Winterfest fans an opportunity to enjoy chili from some great local restaurants and amateurs looking to showcase their culinary talent.
The Chili Challenge is fun for the whole family with music by Boss Hawg, a raffle drawing and much more. And…fans get to help decide the winner! by voting for their favorite chili recipe and most creative table display in the amateur competition.
The restaurant winners will be decided by a panel of “expert” Winterfest judges, but fans need not worry, everyone still get to sample the goods.
But while the emphasis is on finding the best chili maker in the High Country, chefs and cooks are encouraged to be creative in their presentation and recipes. For instance, pictured left, is a chef who, in Winterfest 2003, brought his favorite chili dish to the competition featuring, you guessed it, bear meat as the primary ingredient.
And restaurant owners and even amateur challengers are being encouraged to get creative with their displays of presentation. The amateur with the best table display will take home the Larry Marley Best Presentation Trophy.
