Mrs Bradshaw
Eleanor Churchill Hoey Bradshaw, beloved wife of Leon Sloan Bradshaw, died Wednesday, May 23, 2007 in Salisbury, NC.
Mrs. Bradshaw was born April 23, 1919 in Shelby, NC to Franklin Ernest and Delle Harrison Wilson Churchill Hoey. She attended Miss Semple’s School in New York and King-Smith Studio in Washington, DC before returning to Shelby as the society journalist for the Shelby Daily Star. She married “Brad” there on December 6, 1941, and they made their home in Salisbury after World War II.
Mrs. Bradshaw was a pillar of the Salisbury and Blowing Rock communities, a loyal and celebrated friend, and the center of a loving family. She was an inspiration to everyone fortunate enough to know her, and was always ready with an enthusiastic greeting, a gracious invitation or a thoughtful gesture. A gifted writer, Eleanor was an historian, a journalist and a devoted correspondent. She was also an avid traveler and student of the world.
Mrs. Bradshaw’s indelible contributions included serving as an Elder at First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury, President of Women of the Church, Prayer Ministry member, Sunday School teacher, and Personnel Committee member of Salem Presbytery. She was an active member of the Junior Charity League of Shelby and the Colonial Dames Society, a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels, and a long-time supporter of the Grandfather Home for Children in Banner Elk. She was also a founder, contributor and 30-year Secretary of the Rowan Museum, a Salisbury Symphony Guild member, a member of Betsy Brannon Book Club, and a Blowing Rock Bridge member.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Leon Sloan Bradshaw; three children, daughter Eleanor Churchill Bradshaw Thompson (husband, Simon), son Christopher Sloan Bradshaw (wife, Renee) and daughter Ashley Alexander Bradshaw Shoaf (husband, Bays); grandchildren Douglas Thompson, Courtney Thompson, Brandon Thompson, Stuart Bradshaw, and Harris Lambert; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial Services were held Friday, May 25, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Building Fund, Rowan Helping Ministries, or Grandfather Home for Children.

Mr Greene
Dr. Benjamin Lee Greene, age 62, a native of Blowing Rock and currently a resident of Marion, N.C. passed away Thursday, May 24 at Memorial Mission Hospital.
Dr. Greene was born in Watauga County on June 27, 1944 and was a son of the late Robert Lee and Nettie Sharpe Greene.
Dr. Greene was owner and operator of McDowell Vet Clinic in Marion.
He was a graduate of North Carolina State University and the University of Georgia in Athens.
Dr. Greene is survived by two sons: Andrew Greene and wife Amber of Nebo and Kenneth Green of Nebo; one sister, Caroline G. Robbins of Hickory; two brother, Peter S. Greene of Greensboro and Robert F. (Pug) Greene of Blowing Rock; two grandchildren, Sarah Greene and Sydney Greene and a special companion Susan Leffe.
Funeral services for Dr. Greene were held on Tuesday, May 29th at Westmoreland Chapel in Marion. Officiating were the Rev. Scott Hagaman and the Rev. Robert Greene. Interment followed in Woodlawn Cemetery in Blowing Rock.
