Mr. Gragg
Harold Gragg, 75 of Drum Lane Granite Falls passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC.
He was born October 21, 1931 in Caldwell County to the late William Thurman Gragg and Lydia Coffey Gragg. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Gary Steven Gragg.
Mr. Gragg was a retired U.S. Air Force Veteran and of the Baptist Faith. He was an avid bowler and was involved in many Leagues over the years.
Survivors include his wife Hsu Li Gragg “Shirley” of the home; a son Charles Gragg “Chuck” of Hudson; a daughter, Sandra Coffey and husband Richard of Lenoir; three sisters, Nola Couts, Penny Catterton, Jackie Baucom; three brothers, Richard Gragg of Blowing Rock, Dayton Gragg of Blowing Rock, and Dean Gragg of Biloxi, Mississippi; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 5, 2007, 2:30 p.m. in the Bass Smith Granite Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ed Warren officiating. Entombment followed in the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Mrs. Hartley
Alma Greer Hartley, age 92, of Grandview Circle, Lenoir, Christian servant and loving mother passed from this life and into the arms of her Savior on Wednesday, May 02, 2007 at Lenoir HealthCare. Her legacy of prayer and gift of unselfish devotion to her faith and family ensure that she will not be forgotten. She will be deeply and dearly missed.
She was born August 18, 1914 in Watauga County to the late Robert Greer and Bessie Harrison Greer Walker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie McNairy Hartley; and three sisters, Lois Walser, Helen Artie Grant and Blanda Hampton Martin.
Mrs. Hartley was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, David M. Hartley and wife Donna of Lenoir; seven daughters, Mrs. Geraldine “Gerrie” H. McBride and husband Danny Ray of Winston Salem; Mrs. Yvonne H. Pruette and husband Revis of Blowing Rock, Mrs. Naomi H. Lewis and husband James of Hudson, Mrs. Arita H. Townsel and husband Tony, Mrs. Norma H. Whitt and husband Marshall, Mrs. Bessie H. Waters and husband Max, and Ms. Edith Ann Hartley, all of Lenoir; a sister, Mrs. Stella Keller Dobbins of Blowing Rock; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 6, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Clyde W. Smith, Jr. Services concluded at the Hartley Family Cemetery in Boone, behind Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
Serving as pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons.

Mr. Morrison
Mr. Francis Scarr Morrison, age 85, of Hound Ears Club, Blowing Rock, died Monday, April 30 at Watauga Medical Center in Boone.
Mr. Morrison was born May 20, 1921 in Iredell County, a son of the late Francis Scarr Morrison, Sr. and Pauline Horn Morrison. He was a retired commercial distributor for Maytag Corporation.
Mr. Morrison served with distinction in the United States Air Corp during World War II, was a member of the Hound Ears Club since 1965 and the Blowing Rock Country Club.
Among his many interests were golf, fishing, flying his own airplane and traveling cross-country in a motor-home. He was a wonderful family man who especially enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends.
He was a member of Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church of Blowing Rock.
Mr. Morrison is survived by his wife, Ann Phillips Morrison, of the home; two daughters, Elizabeth “Betty” Edwards and husband, Clarence, of Greenville, S.C. and Scarlett M. Cook of Dunwoody, Georgia; one son, Richard Scarr Morrison of B lowing Rock; three stepsons, James M. Phillips and wife, Wendy, of Hawaii, Frederick A. Phillips and wife, Claudia, and John M. Phillips and wife, Ridgely, all of Charlotte; one granddaughter, Lael Green and husband, George, of Birmingham, Alabama; seven grandsons, Tripp Edwards and wife, Beth, of New Orleans, La., Chris Edwards and wife, Brook, and Brian Cook and wife, Christina, all of Charlotte, Jeff Cook of Atlanta, Ga., Robert Morrison of Gulfport, Ms. David Morrison of Jarratt, Va., and Lee Stauffer of Virginia Beach, Va.; three sisters, Polly Jordan of Houston, Tx, Ann Carson of Statesville, and Frances Ashe and husband, Barry, of Newnan, Ga; and one brother, William G. Morrison and wife, Julia, of Statesville. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren, a number of nieces, nephews, and his personal friend, his dog, Eric.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Lael Morrison; one daughter, Marion Morrison, and three sisters, Ade Shefte, Gloria Williams, and Missy Cansler.
Funeral services for Mr. Morrison were conducted on Thursday, May 3 at Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church in Blowing Rock. Officiating were the Reverend Charles R. Carter and the Reverend T. Landon Lindsay. Military graveside rites and interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville.

Mr. Greene
Mr. Steven “Bruce” Greene, Sr. age 76, of Circle Drive, Hudson and a native and former resident of Blowing Rock, died Wednesday, May 2.
Mr. Greene was born September 22, 1930 in Watauga County, a son of the late Steven Collis and Dova Lentz Greene.
A graduate of Blowing Rock High School, he was retired from BellSouth and a member of the Hudson United Methodist Church where he was a former Trustee Chairman and President of the men of the church. He was a member of the Hudson Fire Department Board of Directors, past president of BellSouth Pioneers Club and a member of the Pioneer Hall of Fame.
Mr. Greene was a United States Navy Veteran, a member of Hibriten Masonic Lodge #262 A.F. & A.M., third term Hudson Town Commissioner, a member of Hudson American Legion Post 29, a former Hudson Man of the Year, and a former Chairman of Hudson Town Planning Board. He was a life member of the Blowing Rock Ruritan Club.
Mr. Greene is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nell Greene; two sons, Steven Bruce Greene, Jr. and wife, Jeanell, of Woodlawn, Virginia and Richard Timothy Greene and wife, Claire, of Chapel Hill; a sister, Mrs. Oma Beasley of Springfield, Tennessee; one grandchild, Linnie Greene of Chapel Hill; five step-grandchildren, Ashley Brooks of Raleigh, Caroline Eppley of Greenville, Alaine Munn, Satie Munn and Hunter Davis, all of Chapel Hill; and one great-grandchild, Christine Reynor of Greenville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Genevive Greene and Alverta Reid; and a brother, Rudolph Greene.
Funeral services for Mr. Greene were held on Friday, May 4 at Hudson United Methodist Church. Officiating were Dr. Timothy Brittain and the Rev. Joe Parker. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery in Blowing Rock.

Mrs. Ross
Ellen Lambeth Ross, of Charlotte and a seasonal resident of Country Club Lane in Blowing Rock, died in Charlotte on Friday, May 4.
Mrs. Ross was born in Charlotte, a daughter of the late Walter Moon Lambeth, Sr. and Mary Cave Lambeth. She attended high school in Charlotte and graduated from Fairfax Hall High School in Waynesboro, Virginia and then graduated from St. Mary’s College in Raleigh.
She was a sustaining member of the Charlotte Junior League and the Charlotte Debutante Club and was a lifetime member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church.
She was a member of Quail Hollow Country Club, Charlotte Country Club and the Blowing Rock Country Club.
Mrs. Ross is survived by her daughter, Lynda Ross Bridger; granddaughters, Ellen Ashlyn Hunt and husband, Gray; two great grandsons, James Tanner and Luke Craven Hunt and granddaughter Saylor Day Hunt.
She was predeceased by her husband, James M. Ross; her grandson Robert Craven Bridger, IV, her brother Walter Moore Lambeth, Jr. and her sister Wisdom L. Walker.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ross were held Monday, May 7 at Myers Park Presbyterian Church. Interment followed at Elmwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sudden Infant Death Foundation in Chapel Hill, the Alexander Children’s Center, The Humane Society of Charlotte, Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte or the charity of ones choice.
