Blowing Rock’s Fred Preddy Is Author Of New Book That Encourages Readers To Always Put Something Back!
Graduates, career seekers and goal setters alike should plan now to attend a book signing on Thursday, May 10, 2007 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Miracle Grounds Coffee Shop on the Crossnore School campus. Retired furniture executive, Fred Preddy, will appear at the coffee shop to sign copies of his brand new book, You Gotta Make It Happen.

Chicago’s Famed Second City Comedy Troupe Coming To Hayes Center May 18-19

Who would have thought that a converted Chinese laundry on Chicago’s north side in 1959 would give way to what the New York Times has hailed “A comedy empire.” But that humble yet hallowed abode did indeed produce The Second City, irrefutably the country’s most crisply pressed comedy institution. And on May 18 and 19 at 8pm, Blowing Rock, NC, gets a little piece of the Windy City giggles, as Chicago’s legendary comedy theatre troupe The Second City will appear at the Hayes Performing Arts Center (off HWY 321) to perform its current show, Truth, Justice, or the American Way.

Dick Kitchell Adds To His National Swimming Titles At Indiana Masters

A Blowing Rock resident has made national news at the YMCA National Masters Swimming Championships at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Dr. Richard Kitchell, a native of Kokomo, Indiana who now calls Blowing Rock home, set a national record and won two other age group events at the annual event that drew 496 male and female swimmers from across the country.

Grandfather Mountain Naturalists Announce 2007 Guide Hike Series

The Naturalist department, which has recently grown to three individuals, will soon start offering its daily summer programs on the Mountain that range from animal workshops to history talks to learning about the nature around the Mile High Swinging Bridge.  But before then, they want to celebrate spring by leading visitors to some of their favorite, more hidden places on the Mountain.

2007 School Reunion Will Be Dedicated To Mrs. Grace Beach

The annual gathering of all students who attended Blowing Rock School prior to consolidation of the High School has always been a very special time for hundreds who graduated from Blowing Rock High School. However this year will be even more special and meaningful, tinged with sadness, but being dedicated to the memory of a teacher who left a legacy of love for “her children”, perhaps unchallenged in the history of education in Blowing Rock.
