The Final Blow?
Knee deep into spring, doesn’t really mean much when it comes to cold, snow and wind in the weather picture for Blowing Rock Country. Two weeks ago it was the largest snowfall of the season, and this past weekend, cold, snow and wind made April Showers look more like a blizzard. Ice covered roads, winds gusting to 70 mph, and temperatures below the freezing mark left a tree challenging a house in the Mayview Park area.

Harbinson Steps Down As Dean Of ASU’s Hayes School Of Music
Timing is an important part of a musician’s life. That’s why when William G. “Bill” Harbinson recently announced the time was right to step down as dean of the Mariam Cannon Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University, you know it was a decision made after careful deliberation.
Harbinson, who has been dean of the music school since July 2000, will step down July 1, 2008, to devote more time to teaching and composing. “I am not retiring, just changing responsibilities,” he says.

Talented local students prepare for Disney’s High School Musical At Hayes Center On May 3 - 6
On January 20, 2006 the Disney Channel debuted their newest made for television movie, High School Musical. Little did they know at the time the phenomenon they had created. The movie was an immediate hit and the music from the movie was the best selling CD of 2006. Now the Rocket Players Youth Theatre will be presenting the new one-act stage version of High School Musical at the Mariam & Robert Hayes Performing Arts Center.

Motorist parking in the downtown area of Blowing Rock are reminded that with the approach of the busy summer season, local police officers will begin closer monitoring of traffic and parking especially along Main Street, Sunset Drive and other streets that accommodate the bulk of the congestion of the town’s business area.
