Robbins Girls Resign Management Positions At The Rock
Two very prominent members of the Robbins family have residgned their management positions at The Blowing Rock attraction.
The announcement of their resignation was made this week by Peggy Robbins Sellers, who has been manager at the landmark attraction since 1972. The other Robbins family member that resigned was Peggy’s daughter, Sara Golini, grandaughter of the man who established The Rock as an attraction in 1933, Grover C. Robbins, who many call the “Father of Tourism in the Mountains”.
Both resignations are as of April 30, 2007.
When Peggy Robbins Sellers returned to her native Blowing Rock in 1972 from Birmingham, Alabama to began a number of programs, additions and modifications that brought the oldest attraction in North Carolina from a minor tourism position among attractions in western North Carolina to one of the leading destinations for both local residents and visitors.
“It was under Ms. Seller’s leadership that The Rock became an important part of the High Country tourism industry,” said a member of the Blowing Rock Merchant’s Asociation. “She and her daughter, Sara, made a lot of positive changes that made The Rock one of the town’s most important assets and one of its most beautiful and historic attractions.”
While Peggy said her resignation was actually a retirement from the management position she held for the past thirty-four years, for Sarah it was a different matter.
“When mom decided it was time to retire, I just could not imagine being there without her,” Sara says. “We have made such a great management team through the years. I just hope the rest of the Robbins family members can follow our lead and make The Rock as successful as mom and I have.”
Peggy adds, “Sara and I most importantly would like to thank all the town employees for everything they have done for us at The Rock. The town police, the rescue squad and EMTs, town maintenance workers and the citizens of Blowing Rock have been an important part of our success over the years. We would also like to thank The Blowing Rocket for sharing our story in the newsapper on so many occasions.”
Editor of The Rocket, Jerry Burns said of their exit from The Rock...
“The loss of Peggy and Sara at The Rock is a loss for the entire town and High Country. They have been among Blowing Rock’s most ardent advocates, and most important of all, have been loving and caring protectors of the world famous landmark from which the village takes it name.
