Mr. Cress

Mr. George Hoyle Cress, age 90 of Concord, passed away Monday morning, February 5 at St. Andrews Living Center.
Born April 4, 1916 in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late George Melanthan and Maggie Winecoff Cress. He was raised at what is now Camp Spencer. He was Vice President of Laxton Construction Company of Charlotte for over 32 year, retiring in 1980. During his career, his projects amounted to over 30 million dollars a year and included forty-five schools, fourteen churches, four colleges and building the Concord City Hall twice. After retirement, he was a founder of Cresent Construction Company in Concord.
Mr. Cress was President of Cabarrus Country Club in 1970 and 1971, during their relocation and construction at their new facility. Hoyle was a member of Central United Methodist Church, a member of the Lester Coltrane Sunday School class. He had many leadership positions including Chairman of the Administrative Board, as well as a trustee of the church. He headed up the building committee, responsible for the construction of the present sanctuary. He is also remembered at the Cabarrus County Boys and Girls Club in a time capsule in the cornerstone of the new building.
  Survivors include daughters Betsy Cress Wilcox and husband George of Charlotte and Blowing Rock, N.C.; Janice Horton of Charlotte; granddaughter Caroline Cress Hedgecock and husband Timothy of Concord; two great grandchildren Abigail and Walker Hedgecock; sister Mary C. Earnhardt of Concord and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cress was preceded in death by his wife, Wilby Cress in August of 1993
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 7 at Central United Methodist Church in Concord, with the Rev. Andy Langford officiating. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord.
The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff of St. Andrews Living Center and Hospice of Cabarrus County for their love and attention .

Sheriff Clark

Sheriff Gary M. Clark, age 47, of Lenoir, passed away Friday, February 2, 2007, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Sheriff Clark was born July 13, 1959, in Caldwell County a son of Stanley and Norma Price Clark of Lenoir. He was a member of Philadelphia Lutheran Church, a member of the Hudson Optimist and Happy Valley Ruritan.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife, Kim Holder Clark of the home; two daughters, Megan Elaine and Staci Michelle Clark, both of the home; a brother, Alan Clark of Lenoir and other family members including a first cousin, Rodney Clark of Blowing Rock.
The funeral was held Tuesday, February 6, 2007, at Mountain Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Parmley, Dr. Clifton Black, the Rev. Roger Beck and Chief Derek Poarch officiating. Interment followed at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to the Trust for Megan and Michelle Clark, c/o Bank of Granite.
Pendry's Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements for the Clark family.

Mr. Greene

Mr. Troy Ransom Greene, age 87 of Boone, died Sunday, February 4 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Greene was born in Watauga County, a son of the late Judson and Hattie Wellborn Greene. He was known as the “Apple Man” and raised and sold apples in the mountain area for over 30 years. A veteran of the US Army serving in Germany in WWII, he was wounded in action and received a Purple Heart. He was a deacon, choir members and Sunday School Teacher for many years and was currently a member of Stony Fork Baptist Church.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Jane Kendrick and husband Roger of Gastonia, Linda Addaman and husband Ron of Fishers, In., 3 brothers, Riley and wife Nina of Deep Gap, Cline and wife Kathryn of Fleetwood, Hershel and wife Imogene of Wilkesboro; 2 sisters, Bonita Stewart of Wilkesboro and Carolyn Austin of Boone. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Scott Hedrick, Jennifer Hicks, and Tracy Stephens, and 6 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Daisy Shore Greene and one brother Charles Greene.
Funeral services for Mr. Greene were conducted Tuesday, February 6 at Stony Fork Baptist Church with the Rev. Vernon Eller officiating. Entombment followed at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Garden Mausoleum.
