Building Totals Drop Slightly From Last Year

However Report From Town Hall Shows Number Of Permits Increases Significantly Over 05

Blowing Rock’s Department of Building and Inspections released their 2006 report of building activity in the town this past week.
The total number of building permit applications for 2006 was 336. This number increased by 100 over the total number of permit applications in 2005.
However, the total construction cost was down slightly in 2006. The total construction cost for 2006 was $24,674,000.00 compared to $25,408,700.00 in 2005. This amounted to a reduction in cost of $734,689.00.
The number of new single family dwelling permit applications remained the same at 21. However the cost of these new homes increased slightly. The cost for these homes in 2006 was $9,842,000.00 compared to $9,679,000.00 in 2005 for a difference of $163,000.00.
Building permit applications for renovations and additions to single family dwellings totaled 219 at a cost of $6,696,668.00. This was an increase in the number of these type permits in 2005 by 84 and an increase in cost by $1,408,168.00.
There was only one new multi-family permit issued in 2006 at a project cost of $955,500.00 compared to two at a cost of $2,468,000.00 in 2005.
In 2006 there were 14 multi-family permit applications for renovations and additions at a construction cost of $1,226,063.00.
There were 4 new commercial permits issued this year at a cost of $5,028,000.00. The largest of these commercial projects would be the new Emergency Services building.
There were 76 permit applications for renovations and additions to commercial properties. The cost submitted for these applications was $925,780.00.
