2007 Theatre Season Will Be Truly One To Remember

The Blowing Rock Stage Company has announced its schedule of shows for 2007, it’s largest and longest season in the company’s history. This will also be the first complete season produced at the new Mariam & Robert Hayes Performing Arts Center, the Stage Company’s home since last August. The 2007 Season features nine productions, including five musicals, two world premieres.
The Stage Company’s 22nd Season will open with the World Premiere of the musical Moses Cone: The Denim King (May 30 – June 16). By Dr. Janet Barton Speer (Lees-McRae College) with music and lyrics by John Thomas Oaks. This new musical was commissioned by the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation and based on the book “A Mansion in the Mountains” by Phillip Noblitt. This musical tells the story of Moses Cone, a denim magnate in North Carolina who built Flat Top Manor in Blowing Rock.
   Following Moses Cone:The Denim King will the be the Off-Broadway hit Golf:The Musical (June 20 – July 8) by Michael Robert. Exasperating for some, exciting for others, the world of golf is revealed in song and comic sketches in the new musical revue.
  Next up will be the longest running thriller in Broadway history, Deathtrap (July 11 – July 21) by Ira Levin. From the novel writer of “Rosemary’s Baby” and “The Stepford Wives” comes this exciting thriller full of twists and turns.
  The songs and story of the original Carter Family come alive in Keep on the Sunny Side (July 25 – August 12) by Douglas Pote a musical about the First Family of country music. Orignally commissioned by the Barter Theatre this musical evokes the emotions as well as the music of this famous family.
  Next will be a return to comedy with Neil Simon’s God’s Favorite (August 15 – September 2) Based on the Book of Job, this comedy tells the story of Joe Benjamin a family man who must go through hell to settle a bet between God and the Devil.
  The last show of the summer season will be the World Premiere of Jan Karon’s Journey to Mitford (September 5 – September 16) by Robert Inman & Kenneth Kay. Based on Jan Karon’s best selling Mitford Series of books, this new play will be the centerpiece of the Blowing Rock Mitford Days festival
  The fall season will open with the American Classic The Glass Menagerie (October 10 – October 21) by Tennessee Williams, followed by the 25th Anniversary Production of the musical sensation Pump Boys & Dinettes (October 24 – November 11) and will wind up with the musical version of The Christmas Bus (November 28 – December 16).
