Miller Named To Post Of Fire Inspector With Blowing Rock Emergency Services

Aaron Miller doesn’t blink an eye when he hears a siren. He’s lived with that shrill, piercing sound most of his life - a Policeman by profession and a Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician as a volunteer.
Sirens will remain in his future, although he will be giving up one of his duties - that of policeman with the city of Hickory. His volunteer service has now become his profession, and instead of traveling through two counties to get to work, he just drives down the road from his home in the Aho community.
Miller became the newest full-time member of Blowing Rock’s Emergency Services Department when he was named to the post of Fire Inspector for the Town of Blowing Rock. His first day on the job was January 2.
His new duties will also include service as both a Firefighter and EMT, as well as a Public Information Officer for Emergency Services, a job shared by his five fellow workers who all participate in a number of outreach programs from schools to EmergencyFest and from fire extinguisher classes to traffic control for Blowing Rock special events.
Miller will be working with both the Blowing Rock Fire Department and the Blowing Rock Rescue Squad, however his primary duty will be that of Fire Inspector and Records Supervisor.
Miller has served as a volunteer with the fire department and rescue squad for over eighteen years. He currently serves as Chief of the Rescue Squad and as Captain with the Fire Department.
“The fire department and rescue squad have been a huge part of my life over the years,” Miller says. “Its wonderful to have the opportunity to make emergency services in Blowing Rock my career. It’s an exciting time to be a part of Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue.”
Much of that excitement is because Blowing Rock’s emergency services will be moving into a new state-of-the-art facility on Valley Boulevard. Now under construction, the complex will house both fire and rescue, providing space for vehicles, training, accommodations for duty personnel and equipment.
Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue is also planning a new satellite station out Highway 221, to serve that growing population base within that fire district.
“Emergency Services is a completely new system today as compared to previous years,” Miller says. “Federal and state regulations, better methods of fire suppression and rescue operations, and the significant population growth and development make it vital to have trained, responsive manpower and services on hand and ready to roll twenty-four hours a day.”
