Art Submission Invited For 2008 Blue Ridge Wine Festival In Blowing Rock

Today, the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce announced the opening of the 2008 Blue Ridge Wine Festival Art Competition. All interested artists are invited to submit original artwork for the 2008 festival, date to be announced. The 2007 Festival is slated for April 12-15 and will incorporate activities throughout the weekend showcasing wines influenced by the Blue Ridge Mountains, local and national celebrity chefs, and food and wine dinners at Blowing Rock’s own highly rated restaurants.
According to Charles Hardin, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, the artwork chosen to represent the 2008 Blue Ridge Wine Festival will be used primarily to produce posters and t-shirts, although other merchandising ideas are being considered. The original artwork will then be auctioned at the VIP Charity Reserve Gala during the event to raise money for the Festival’s designated charity. The winning artist will also be asked to sign posters at the Grand Cru Wine Tasting, where an opportunity will be provided to showcase other works of art. In addition, the artist will be highlighted in all public relations conducted for the event.
“There are no restrictions on the submissions,” adds Hardin. “However, we would obviously like to see something that incorporates the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, with a tie-in to food and wine. This area is known world wide for its unspoiled beauty and we are really looking forward to seeing what people come up with this year.”
