 Mrs. Boyd
Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth "Libba" Taylor Boyd, age 84, of 1531 Old Boone Road, Blowing Rock, wife of the late James Reed Boyd, died Saturday, September 10, at Carillon of Cramer Mountain Cramerton.
Mrs. Boyd was born November 30, 1920 in Lowesville, Gaston County, a daughter of the late Dr. Benjamine Cicero Taylor and Margaretta Ann Gambill Taylor. She was graduated from Mount Holly High School and attended Queens Charlotte in Charlotte where she was a member of Kappa Delta and received a degree in Teacher Education.
In 1948, she was married to James Reed Boyd and they made their home in Columbia, South Carolina where she taught first grade. In the early 1960s, the moved to Charlotte, where she taught at Cotswalt Elementary School. During this time, she was active in Delta Kappa Gamma and was named North Carolina "Teacher of the Year".
After retiring in 1981, she and her husband moved to Blowing Rock where they were active members and leaders at Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church. Following his death in 1983, Mrs. Boyd volunteered her time to teach bridge at the Blowing Rock Library and worked at the Blowing Rock Hospital's Thrift Box, more familiarly known as the Budget Box.
Mrs. Boyd is survived by two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Sadie Miller Taylor, wife of the late B.C. Taylor and Jennie Linn Wright Taylor, college roommate of Mrs. Boyd, wife of the late George Bower Taylor. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and cousins and a multitude of loving friends.
In addition to her husband and father and mother, she was preceded in death by a sister, Bula Vista Taylor Elmore and four brothers, James Taylor, Benjamin Cicero "B.C." Taylor, Dr. Preston Taylor and George Taylor.
Funeral services for Mrs. Boyd were conducted on Monday, September 12 at Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church. Officiating was the Rev. Larry Lyon. Interment followed in Woodlawn Cemetery in Blowing Rock.
Hampton Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Watson
Rebecca Wallace Watson, age 58, of Blowing Rock and Bethesda, Maryland, passed away Thursday, September 8th.
Mrs. Watson grew up in Wilson, N.C., the daughter of Charlotte Wallace and the late Rev. James G. Wallace.
She received her Bachelors degree from Atlantic Christian College, her Masters degree from East Carolina University, and her Doctorate of Education from N.C. State University.
She was involved with education for many years. Her teaching experiences ranged from elementary class to university graduate level courses as well as administrative positions. She was most happy when she was training and mentoring new teachers.
She leaves behind a legacy off many students and teachers that she helped and inspired. At the time of her illness she was affiliated with the District of Columbia Public Schools and American University in Washington, D.C. She was also a successful businesswoman and an enthusiastic volunteer with many organizations.
Mrs. Watson touched many lives and many touched hers as well. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Chevy Chase, Maryland and St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church in Blowing Rock.
She is survived by Larry Watson, her husband of 35 years; one daughter, Hadley Watson of Telluride, Co.; one son, Dr. McCain Watson of Des Moines, Ia; and two granddaughters, Samara and Annike. She is also survived by a sister, Sarah Bunn of Wilson,N.C.; three brothers, Dr. Phil Wallace of Dillon, S.C., Jon Wallace of Fredericksburg, Va., and Michael Wallace of Washington, D.C. and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Monday, September 12 at St. Mary of the Hills Episcopal Church in Blowing Rock. The Rev. Richard Lawler officiated.
Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross/Hurricane Katrina, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C. 20013, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Catawba Memorial park of Hickory, N.C. was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Harpster
Bette Jane Harpster, age 66, of Gainesville, Florida and a seasonal resident of Blowing Rock, passed away at her residence, under th care of Hospice on September 7.
A resident of Gainesville, Florida since 2004 when she moved from her home in Lime Rock, N.C., Mrs. harpster was born in Belle Glade, Florida and lived most of her life in the Palm Beach area before moving to North Carolina.
She was a retired nurse and of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by a daughter, Wendy Harpster of Gainesville, Florida; two sons, Denis Harrelle of Tallahassee and William Harpster, Jr. of West Palm Beach; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William harpster, Sr., and two sons, John Harpster and Stanley Harpster.
Private funeral services were conducted in Clearwater, Florida.

Mr. Sigmon
Norman Alexander Sigmon, age 92, of Chigger Ridge Road, Taylorsville, died Tuesday, September 6 at Catawba Valley Medical Center following an illness of three weeks.
Mr. Sigmon was born May 3, 1913 in Catawba County, son of the late Raymond Elmore Sigmon and Mildred Propst Sigmon. He was retired from H & S Plastering Company and also Full Fashion Hosiery. He was a member of Shiloh Lutheran Church for 47 years where he had served on various committees. He was a member of Bethlehem Lions Club for 40 years, was a long-time Lion Tamer, had delivered Meals on Wheels and had been a flea market enthusiast for years.
Survivors include his daughter Norma Gail Huffman and husband Bob of Taylorsville, a son Stuart Sigmon and wife Nancy of Blowing Rock; a sister Mary Sigmon Boger of the Lutheran Home in Hickory, and 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Alice Ledford Sigmon; two daughters Martha Josephine Sigmon Starnes and Julia Alice Sigmon McLean; two brothers, Eliot and Howard Sigmon and one sister, Margaret Sigmon Huffman.
Funeral services for Mr. Sigmon were conducted on Friday, September 9 a Shiloh Lutheran Church. Officiating was the Rev. Rosa Erickson. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Edwards
Mr. Edwards
Mr. William Frederick "Bill" Edwards, Jr., of Cow Camp Road, Newland, N.C., died suddenly on Tuesday, August 23, 2005.
He was born in Key West, Florida on February 10, 1946, a son of Doris and Fred Edwards.
Mr. Edwards graduated from Key West High, attended the University of Florida, then graduated from Appalachian State University with degrees in Economics and Geography. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he returned to reside in the serenity of his beloved mountains where he quietly pursued his lifelong love of learning.
Survivors include his sister, Judy Powers, and brother, Steve, both of Cape Coral, Fla., along with loving nephews Mike and Tom Sweeting, and nieces Susan Mahaffey, Shannon Diehm, Laura and Alison Edwards, as well as four great-nieces and five great-nephews.
Forever in his family's hearts, Bill was remembered by a gathering of friends and loved ones at a memorial service at Fletcher's Presbyterian Church in Newland on Wednesday, August 31, 2005.
